A 55-member national civic committee has been formed with Nasiruddin Patwari as the convener and Akhtar Hossain as the member-secretary for the purpose of reorganizing the country by consolidating the power of the student uprising. The membership of this committee will increase further.
This committee was announced at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
The convener of the committee, Naseeruddin Patwari, was the Assistant Information and Research Secretary of AB Party. AB Party sources said that he resigned a few days ago. Before joining AB Party, Nasiruddin Patwari was the Organizing Secretary of Dhaka University Branch Students Federation.
And Akhtar Hossain, member secretary of the civic committee, is the convener of the democratic student power. He is the former social service secretary of Daksoo.
Samantha Samantha Sharmin has been made the spokesperson of the National Citizens Committee. After announcing the committee, he said, the National Citizens Committee is starting its work by forming a convening committee. Soon they will discuss with the social, cultural and religious leaders and people of various classes and professions who participated in the students' uprising at all metropolitan, district and upazila levels. By extending this committee to the grassroots, the power of the students' revolution will be integrated and the Bangladesh will work for the purpose of restructuring the country.
At this time, Samantha Sharmin highlighted the eight primary tasks of this committee. They are:
1. Uphold the collective will and democratic aspirations reflected in the student uprising.
2. Taking the necessary programs to bring the people involved in the brutal killings of students under justice and ensure punishment.
3. To create a framework of cooperation and accountability with the interim government for urgent reforms and restructuring of the state.
4. Working with various social, cultural and political initiatives to integrate people from all walks of life through discussion, exchange of views and mass-oriented programs.
5. Continue resistance against fascist structures and forces with the aim of upholding the aspirations of mass revolution by mobilizing the social, cultural and religious leadership at all levels of the country.
6. To organize thematic dialogues with people of various classes and professions and expatriate Bangladeshis for the purpose of determining policies for the public interest.
7. For the purpose of restructuring the state institutions, making necessary policy recommendations and taking necessary political steps to implement them.
8. To form a Constituent Assembly and conduct a public consultation for the creation of a new democratic constitution through a referendum.
